Happy Birthday, Alliepie!

I would like to send a big hug and a huge "Happy Birthday" to Alexandra who is turning one today! A year ago today Cory and I were sitting in the hospital room meeting this sweet little girl.

I would also like to send her parents a huge hug for surviving their first year of parenthood. :)

Lindsey--look under your bed tonight for a chicken wing ;)

You might recognize Lindsey, as she was the matron of honor in my wedding!

Holiday DIYs

I don't know if you've noticed, but there are a lot of cool holiday things happening in blogland. I want to share some of the awesomeness with you. It is the season for giving/sharing after all!

Indie Fixx is hosting a special segment called Handmade Holidays where they are featuring various artists and DIYs that are quick, simple, and pretty darn cute. Here's an Advent Calendar that I l-o-v-e.

Rachel over at Smile and Wave is hosting 'Home for the Holidays' with various guest bloggers, loads of inspiration and adorable DIYs like this little terrarium.

That was just a little taste... I'll be back later this week with more :)

Donna loves December!

Tumblr_lcphv1afol1qczv3oo1_400_large

As you could easily tell, we find December to be very special over here.

When I was thinking of a name for my blog and shop, I knew I needed to include 'Donna,' as it was my grandmother's name who taught me to crochet, but I needed to add little something to it. I was thinking a lot about my grandmother at the time, as it was right before she passed away in January. I was thinking about everything we have in common: crafting, public service, caring for others. Then it struck me: December! We both had December birthdays!

So, to celebrate my birthday (4th) and to honor my grandmother's (17th), Donna's Decembers is proudly offering 10% off your entire purchase in our shop for the entire month of December! Simply type in the discount code located in the information section of our shop and wha-la!

I hope you enjoy this month. I will spend a lot of time thinking about my grandmother, especially all those yummy walnut Christmas cookies she would make.

Gorgeous.

Yokoo has been such an inspiration to me since this time last year when I read about her in the New York Times. This video featured on etsy is simply stunning. Enjoy!

A huge sigh of relief.

If you can remember, Cory and I gave up cable & internet as part of our new year resolution this time last year. We survived a full 12 months without internet (other than our cell phones and internet hotspots around town), and after my most recently identity theft issue, we finally agreed it was time to add a little internet security to our lives and just get internet again. The Comcast guy just left, and I am fully wired! Woo hoo! I am thrilled! No more lugging my laptop to various cafe's and bookstores (although it was sort of fun).

In other news, you have about 20 hours left to enter Leigh-Ann's major giveaway over at Freckled Nest. I know I've met many many new friends through this giveaway, but if you haven't entered, you're going to want to check out all the goodies she is offering! I'm giving away a super soft, super comfy cowl scarf. It would be perfect to keep for yourself or to giveaway as a holiday gift! Here's what it looks like...

If you don't win this giveaway, these cowls are available in my shop and will keep you posted on the oodles of giveaways I'm sponsoring in December!

Have a lovely first day of December!

Birthday Wishlist

With my birthday coming up on Saturday (the 4th), I thought it would be a nice time to take care of a little birthday wishlist...

1. A pair of Toms. I should've bought the pair I was drooling over in San Diego in August, but I did not. So maybe I will get a pair of my birthday or from Santa Claus :) These would be great or, to be honest, any other pair would do! I'm not picky!

2. Twinkie Chan's crazy-but-awesome new book. I can't wait to make Cory a cupcake scarf! I kid, I kid... I have mad love for Twinkie Chan as she has put an impressive modern spin on crochet!

3. Amy Sedaris' equally as crazy-but-awesome new book Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People. If you haven't seen this--it is hilarious!

Other than those three items, all I really want is a nice day with friends/family. I know we are spending Sunday afternoon with my parents, as my stepfather, Gene is cooking me a birthday dinner! Everything for the rest of the weekend seems pretty up in the air--which is okay with me.

Do you have anything on your wish list?
