As part of National Craft Month, my local handmade shop, <a href="http://www.shopthemuse.com/" target="_blank">The Muse</a>, hosts a local artist each Sunday of March to demonstrate a craft or skill from 2-4 in the afternoon. I was asked to kick off Demo Days and I decided to demonstrate how to use pom pom makers and then use them to make a pom pom rug! I only got about half way finished the rug, as I taught SO many wonderful people how to use pom pom makers, but I'm excited to finish the rug during this huge snow storm we're expecting this week.<br />
<br />Anyway, while I was teaching an adorable 5th grader how to use the pom pom makers, Bill Green, a photographer from our local paper, <a href="http://www.fredericknewspost.com/" target="_blank">The Frederick News Post</a>, came by and snapped a few photos. It's certainly not the best photo, but is a little bit of press to add to my resume! I wish they could have included the little girl, too, but that's ok!<br />

<br />
I've been overwhelmed with crochet inspiration this weekend and was able to whip up a fresh batch of necklaces in Spring-like colors. Are you desperate for warmer weather and sunshine, too?<br />
<br />
I love using the alligator stitch for jewelry as it offers such a fun, unique texture to an everyday item.<br />
<br />
These necklaces will be at The Muse later this afternoon, but you can also find them in <a href="http://www.donnasdecembers.etsy.com/" target="_blank">my shop</a> (only $25)!<br />
<br />
I hope you're having a lovely President's Day!<br />

My friend Karla and I will be teaching another crochet class at <a href="http://www.shopthemuse.com/" target="_blank">The Muse</a> on March 10th! This time, we're teaching two skills: making t-shirt yarn and how to make a bangle bracelet!<br />

<br />
We're expecting this class to be a lot of fun as attendees will learn the art of re-purposing an everyday item and transforming it into something functional and cute!<br />

A few weeks ago Whitney from <a href="http://www.shopthemuse.com/" target="_blank">The Muse</a> asked me if I could put a crochet twist on the collar trend. I thought about it for quite a while before I actually put a plan into action. I attempted 5 or 6 different designs, ripping them all out after only a few rows as I knew they wouldn't work. This is the best and the worst part of designing wears with crochet. It's so exciting when it works, but there's so much work that goes into the process!<br />
<br />
I dropped off a few collar necklaces to <a href="http://www.shopthemuse.com/" target="_blank">The Muse</a> once I had a design I loved and talked to Whitney about the proper way to display them. We discussed the functionality of the necklace and went our separate ways. A few days later, she sent me a photo of the display, I was absolutely floored with how stunning it is! <br />

<br />
I love how this display allows all women to see how a cute collar can add to any wardrobe or style. It's so gorgeous!<br />

I can find reason to enjoy every season. I probably don't have an absolute favorite season as much as I just enjoy having seasons. I can't imagine living in a region that is warm or cold the majority of the year. I need change. I thrive for change. Seasons are good because they allow me to see how time is passing and the ever changing scenery around me. All that being said, I really enjoy winter. I enjoy nesting my home to make it more cozy. I enjoy baking and cooking more as fresh fruits and vegetables are not always available to us. I really enjoy snow. Every year, however, when the snow starts to fade away and the wind becomes a little more harsh, I am desperate for the change in seasons. We've had some unseasonably warm weather over the last 3 or 4 days (45-50 degrees) and it has been absolutely wonderful.<br />
<br />
This weather, combined with Cory being away for a few days, has really allowed me to spend some time with myself and create a healthy routine that will lead me straight into spring. After trying to make our elliptical fit all my exercise needs and it completely<i> not working</i> (apparently I hate the elliptical, but Cory loves it), I joined a gym and put in a good cardio session yesterday after work. I've been finding ways to cut out bread from our meals--lettuce wraps, etc.--which also makes me feel a lot better. Taking the time to exercise and read on a regular basis really helps me feel like <i>me</i>. I'm struggling to fit everything I need to accomplish in a day before bedtime, but I'm trying to not let it phase me.<br />
<br />
I was recently searching around Pintrest and found a few projects that made me giddy for spring, so I wanted to share them with you!<br />

I love the mix of brights and neutrals. I really want to have more plants around our home this spring. I also think I could re-create the majority of this room on a tight budget. I love a good challenge.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I recently came across the <a href="http://www.sundaycrossbow.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Sunday Crossbow</a> fashion blog and am inspired and smitten all at once. Even though she hasn't blogged since August, her outfits are designed on a budget and inspire me to be more creative with what's already in my closet. I get terribly insecure when mixing patterns and she's really inspired me to try it a little more frequently!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So that's what's inspiring me today. I'm ready for longer days and the hint of warmer weather. Of course, I wouldn't be upset if we had one more big snowstorm this winter, though!</div>

I'm not crazy about Valetine's Day, but I am crazy about treating
myself. I don't go shopping a lot or get pedicures on a regular basis,
but when it comes to "holidays" like this, sometimes it's nice to treat
myself to something small, but meaningful. For example, I wear a large
jade ring that I purchased for myself after "surviving" my first year
teaching. I wear that ring all the time and it reminds me of my
accomplishments as a teacher. If I've had a stressful week, I make sure I
stop by Starbucks on my way home on Friday to get my favorite drink.
It's the little things, right?</div>

It's been a while, but I'm happy to be back. One thing I've done this year is make more time to read and generally relax. I spent the majority of January reading Adventures of Huckleberry Finn with my sophomore class and enjoyed it so thoroughly, I wanted another text in a similar vein. So when I thought about Huck Finn, I wanted a text that would have a lot of nature scenes or descriptions, a fun, whimsical story, with characters I could truly admire. I really thought I would just have to pick up another Twain piece, but then I saw <a href="http://onesheepishgirl.blogspot.com/2013/01/weekend-plans-125-127.html" target="_blank">this post</a> from <a href="http://onesheepishgirl.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">One Sheepish Girl</a> and instantly fell in love with the cover art of <a href="http://www.wildwoodchronicles.com/" target="_blank">Wildwood</a> (yes, some of us still judge books by their covers). I had a little money left on a giftcard from Christmas, so I ordered it online after reading a few blurbs about it (I think I paid less than $12 total). <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ycGoQG1cXBA/URo3vtU-QMI/AAAAAAAADy0/HZygsFlnrDE/s1600/wildwood+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ycGoQG1cXBA/URo3vtU-QMI/AAAAAAAADy0/HZygsFlnrDE/s1600/wildwood+2.jpg" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
A few things caught my attention about <a href="http://www.wildwoodchronicles.com/" target="_blank">Wildwood</a>. The illustrations on the cover of <a href="http://www.wildwoodchronicles.com/" target="_blank">Wildwood</a> looks familiar to me, so after I realized Colin Meloy, the leadsinger of the <a href="http://decemberists.com/" target="_blank">Decemberists</a>, is the author, it all clicked. Meloy's lady friend, Carson Ellis, is the illustrator behind both the Decemberists website and also this book! Cool! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hhsOlwpHiG0/URo3wbFmhXI/AAAAAAAADzE/1R1ujIFI3cw/s1600/wildwood+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hhsOlwpHiG0/URo3wbFmhXI/AAAAAAAADzE/1R1ujIFI3cw/s1600/wildwood+5.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
So, once I was completely finished with Huck Finn, I picked up Wildwood and was instantly smitten. The illustrations alone made me excited to read, but when I cracked it open and realized that it wasn't written as a book for kids--it was a book for really inquisitive, smart kids--I was overjoyed. I don't read a lot of young adult literature any more (which I should probably change), and I certainly don't find myself in the kids section very often, so to read a book that has middle schoolers as the target audience and actually enjoy it was awesome!<br />
<br />
What baffles me, though, is that while the storyline is fairly simplistic and wonderfully whimsical, the language is extremely complex. As nerdy as it sounds, I've counted 40+ SAT vocabulary words throughout the text, and I'm not even at page 200 yet! I plan on recommending this text to some of my sophomores as an easy book to read over the summer that can also simultaneously enhance their vocabulary. It'll seem like a dream come true, I'm sure.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LghctuBsHkg/URo3w4p-eyI/AAAAAAAADzM/bQtq7S5pvT0/s1600/wildwood+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LghctuBsHkg/URo3w4p-eyI/AAAAAAAADzM/bQtq7S5pvT0/s1600/wildwood+3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Wildwood follows the story of Prue McKeel's sojourn through the mysterious Impassable Wilderness, otherwise known as Wildwood, area outside of Portland, Oregon in search of her baby brother. As she discovers this magical, animal-controlled world, she also realizes the terrors of being away from home, having to trust four-legged creatures and nature itself.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f74-_FTYby4/URo3voZdMQI/AAAAAAAADy4/Wy9q4cLE5Kc/s1600/wildwood+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f74-_FTYby4/URo3voZdMQI/AAAAAAAADy4/Wy9q4cLE5Kc/s1600/wildwood+1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Although I haven't finished it yet--on page 200 out of 540+--I'm excited to keep reading. Usually a longer text like this doesn't keep my attention long enough for me to actually finish, but this is certainly a keeper! Also, I love books in series, and the second book, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Under-Wildwood-The-Chronicles-Book/dp/006202471X/ref=pd_sim_b_1" target="_blank">Under Wildwood</a>, has already hit the shelves. I'm eager to give that a shot, too, to see how Meloy continues this story! <br />

Life was busy as I attempted to not only tried to prepare for the holidays, but also enjoy them. My efforts were rewarded with a wonderful winter break, a successful winter season in my shop, and a smooth entry into 2013.<br />
<br />
With that being said, I have been extremely busy designing new product for <a href="http://www.donnasdecembers.etsy.com/" target="_blank">my crochet shop</a>. I'd like to introduce to you: the Crochet Sparkle Collar Necklace! (You can expect non-sparkle collar necklaces in the next day or two, as well!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lbxlhMJl9gI/UPHAdfpmVmI/AAAAAAAADxY/ozN5xbVsKOk/s1600/collar+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lbxlhMJl9gI/UPHAdfpmVmI/AAAAAAAADxY/ozN5xbVsKOk/s1600/collar+1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I love these necklaces! I've been sporting a purple one to work recently and both students and faculty love them! I paired it with a simple black long-sleeved shirt and dress pants. It was the perfect touch of collar for a pretty drab outfit in January.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-afXgJJVtWnQ/UPHAdba9DHI/AAAAAAAADxc/9FyyWo04bS8/s1600/collar+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-afXgJJVtWnQ/UPHAdba9DHI/AAAAAAAADxc/9FyyWo04bS8/s1600/collar+3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yrmHWdZc3Is/UPHAdaZf0vI/AAAAAAAADxg/sJc0avbOjVA/s1600/collar+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yrmHWdZc3Is/UPHAdaZf0vI/AAAAAAAADxg/sJc0avbOjVA/s1600/collar+2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
If you're interested, these necklaces are available in <a href="http://www.donnasdecembers.etsy.com/" target="_blank">my shop</a> for only $25 and at <a href="http://www.shopthemuse.com/" target="_blank">The Muse</a> in downtown Frederick for the same price!<br />
<br />
I'll post again sometime in the near future with real-life updates, but I just wanted you to see what was new in this neck of the woods! (Pun not intended ;)).<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Have a lovely Saturday!</div>

<br />
A lot has been happening here behind the scenes in what I like to call my "scarf factory" otherwise known as our condo. Every waking moment I am not working on school, I am trying to crochet. I have had so many ideas come about recently that just having the time to bring them to fruition has been really awesome. I finally had some time over the last week to photograph new items and list them in my <a href="http://www.donnasdecembers.etsy.com/" target="_blank">shop</a>! Please check them out! <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The first item is the new <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/114006300/bohemian-wrap-cowl?ref=v1_other_2" target="_blank">Bohemian Wrap Cowl</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also have a set of coordinating <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/114007928/crochet-fingerless-mitts?ref=v1_other_2" target="_blank">fingerless mitts</a> available: </div>

<br />
Last Wednesday, after a long day at school, I piled into the car with my husband and two of our closest friends for a 4 day road trip to <a href="http://www.donnasdecembers.blogspot.com/2012/10/what-am-i-packing-for-auburn-2012.html" target="_blank">Auburn</a>, Alabama. This is the<a href="http://www.donnasdecembers.blogspot.com/search/label/Auburn" target="_blank"> third year</a> we've made the trip and it certainly lived up to expectations! Also, I remembered to snap enough photos to share our trip with you! Hooray!<br />
<br />
Our plan every year is to drive the majority of the trip after work on Wednesday and make it to Greenville, South Carolina to stay with Beth's aunt Kathy. It's always a late night, but this year we ended up in Greenville in record time (by 12:30 a.m.). The next day we hit up Kathy's diner, <a href="http://www.midtowndeli.biz/" target="_blank">Midtown Deli</a>, for delicious sandwiches and her ever popular chocolate chip cookies (they're different than any other CCC and so delicious!) before hitting the road to Auburn.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xKg0s6kmmJY/UJBPkdCDpmI/AAAAAAAADog/FosKQnFV9IU/s1600/auburn+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xKg0s6kmmJY/UJBPkdCDpmI/AAAAAAAADog/FosKQnFV9IU/s1600/auburn+2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
One of my favorite parts of making the trip from Greenville to Auburn is all the roadside stops and attractions to see along the way. We stopped at a gas station to fill up and I noticed this boiled peanut self-serve station. We definitely don't have anything like that here in Maryland. My friend Lisa happens to love boiled peanuts, so I wanted to snap a photo for her.<br />
<br />
My other favorite stop on the ride from Greenville to Auburn is a tiny alcove in Atlanta, GA called Little 5 Points. We stop every year to hit up our favorite vintage shop and record store, and to stop by our favorite watering hole. We only stop for an hour or two, but it's always a lot of fun. In fact, the hand-painted brick wall from the photo above is a storefront in Little 5 Points.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--onZlg1_E7o/UJBQ3wsO_zI/AAAAAAAADoo/5X2_4BSLMY0/s1600/auburn+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--onZlg1_E7o/UJBQ3wsO_zI/AAAAAAAADoo/5X2_4BSLMY0/s1600/auburn+3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
We always get really pumped on the ride from Atlanta to Auburn, as it's only about 90 minutes long. This is when we start getting silly, singing the Auburn fight song and chanting the cheers from the football games.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-81xeGDDXWpY/UJBRGw6vokI/AAAAAAAADow/tAzGVris4-Y/s1600/auburn+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-81xeGDDXWpY/UJBRGw6vokI/AAAAAAAADow/tAzGVris4-Y/s640/auburn+4.jpg" width="640" /> </a> </div>
Thursday evening we stayed in Auburn proper with Beth's friend Mark. By this trip, we have hung out with Mark quite a few times. You might remember him as the bride-dude from Rich and Beth's wedding in the spring. Thursday we went out and about downtown Auburn to get to know the locals and check out the sights. Our favorite stop was <a href="http://thehound-auburn.com/" target="_blank">The Hound</a>, a new restaurant specializing in bacon and bourbon. It is gorgeous both inside and out and the atmosphere was excellent. I love minimal yet woodsy design. The Hound is an ace.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zCWXwINS0B0/UJBRHhNfg3I/AAAAAAAADo4/nQ9F_jwF0aA/s1600/auburn+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zCWXwINS0B0/UJBRHhNfg3I/AAAAAAAADo4/nQ9F_jwF0aA/s1600/auburn+5.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
We're really fortunate that the people who give Beth their tickets for us to use also give us access to the condo on Lake Martin. This is one of the most gorgeous places I've ever seen, so it's a treat visiting year after year. This was the view from our balcony:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dYBLUWay9KE/UJBRJIzWWVI/AAAAAAAADpA/KcgMS8UKDK8/s1600/auburn+10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dYBLUWay9KE/UJBRJIzWWVI/AAAAAAAADpA/KcgMS8UKDK8/s1600/auburn+10.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Saturday is always full of food and football. This year's game wasn't until 6:15, so we had plenty of time to socialize and hang out with Beth's friends from college. I'm always amazed by the sheer quantity of tailgaters that make their way to Auburn for every game. It's serious business down there!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eOTTe2aZJD0/UJBRJ8qQ2KI/AAAAAAAADpI/fZA_C97ytbM/s1600/auburn+11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eOTTe2aZJD0/UJBRJ8qQ2KI/AAAAAAAADpI/fZA_C97ytbM/s1600/auburn+11.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OC7NJ3inRoE/UJBRKRjBKSI/AAAAAAAADpQ/0PiVFZweSK4/s1600/auburn+13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OC7NJ3inRoE/UJBRKRjBKSI/AAAAAAAADpQ/0PiVFZweSK4/s1600/auburn+13.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The best part of this trip was certainly getting to see a little bit more of the town and get to know more local establishments. It was nice to check out a new mom & pop game-day gear store and pick up a few gifts for students who are interested in Auburn University.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yie3lxP1Ed4/UJBRK-C0GFI/AAAAAAAADpY/hmciUXl3nfs/s1600/auburn+7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Yie3lxP1Ed4/UJBRK-C0GFI/AAAAAAAADpY/hmciUXl3nfs/s1600/auburn+7.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-juUxYEJZz08/UJBRLdWHlZI/AAAAAAAADpg/Be2WtYBBpdI/s1600/auburn+8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-juUxYEJZz08/UJBRLdWHlZI/AAAAAAAADpg/Be2WtYBBpdI/s1600/auburn+8.jpg" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
We even had more time to walk around campus and get those same students admissions information regarding scholarships and out-of-state tuition. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qvEk7h3UU9I/UJBRL_TIwEI/AAAAAAAADpo/o2sCh8YreDw/s1600/auburn+9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qvEk7h3UU9I/UJBRL_TIwEI/AAAAAAAADpo/o2sCh8YreDw/s1600/auburn+9.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Even though the Tigers aren't having the best season, this trip was certainly a lot of fun and a nice break from the daily grind of teaching. We're fortunate that we're given a certain number of personal days to use each year and that we're given the opportunity to travel.<br />
<br />
Auburn is easily becoming a home away from home and I can't wait to get back. Do you have a favorite away-from-home town?<br />
<br />

<a href="http://www.queerty.com/east-coast-braces-for-hurricane-sandy-with-a-chance-of-greased-lightnin-20121026/" target="_blank">(photo) </a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
We're home safe and sound from our annual trip to Auburn, Alabama. We actually got home earlier than usual (back in VA around 8:30), so we were able to swing by the grocery store and stock up on food and supplies before Hurricane Sandy took control. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I woke up confused this morning, because my clock said 7:30, but it was still so dark outside. While we're not expected to get the brunt of this storm, Frederick is still on the watch for serious flooding and wind damage. We're expecting 5-10 inches of rain within the next 36 hours and nearly every public system and/or profession is closed for the day. I'm expecting to also be home tomorrow, as the peak of this storm is taking shape between 8 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. tomorrow.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Y3tjRnl9q8/UI5402lgeAI/AAAAAAAADng/APi8JSKumUY/s1600/sandy+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Y3tjRnl9q8/UI5402lgeAI/AAAAAAAADng/APi8JSKumUY/s1600/sandy+2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://noaa.gov/" target="_blank">(photo)</a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-k978tJqY4lU/UI51ff1XXxI/AAAAAAAADmg/ZGoYosk8EDY/s1600/sandy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a>We've got plenty of bread and water. I took all our candles out of storage and even baked some sweet potato fries this morning (in case we need a spicy snack ;)). As a graduate of Salisbury University, Hurricane days are something I've experienced fairly frequently. While the wind and rain can be scary, there are a few things to have on hand that are very helpful. I thought I would share my prepare-for-the-worst tips, just in case you live in Sandy's path, too!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<ul>
<li>fill ziplock bags with 1-3 cups of water and place them in empty spots in your freezer. They will freeze and then keep the meat/foods frozen for longer if the electricity goes out. </li>
<li>fill up the bathtub(s) with water! There's no guarantee that you'll have water access once the power goes out (especially clean water), so you can use the water in the tub to help flush toilets. </li>
<li>stock up on: bread, jugs of water, canned fruit, jars of peanut butter, and honey. Jelly and jams must be refrigerated, but honey does not. Commence the pb + honey sandwiches! </li>
<li>hold off on lighting candles for as long as possible. Open up all the blinds in your house (unless the wind is dangerously bad) and use the natural light so your candles last longer.</li>
<li>stack up all the patio/deck furniture from outside close to your house so it doesn't blow away, knock over, or smash into your windows.</li>
<li>keep a healthy stash of craft supplies out in case you're with roommates, kids, or spouses. Most crafts require very little electricity and have the power to help time pass.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>keep your laptops/phones plugged in 24/7. I know this isn't the best for the battery life, but this way you're fully charged whenever the power goes out and/or flickers back on.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now I need to heed my own advice and fill up our bathtub before it gets too late! Good luck today, east coasters! Be safe!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
xo,</div>

I always like seeing crochet on the runway or in my favorite stories. Throughout the last few seasons a friend of mine (and fellow hooker) and I have been tracking how Anthro incorporates crochet into their seasonal style. I was a little disappointed when Anthro released their first series of fall clothing lines and didn't see much crochet. It didn't take long for that to change, though!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/deroucheau" target="_blank">Deroucheau's</a> crocheted clutch bags are now available at<a href="http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/category/bags/accessories-bags.jsp" target="_blank"> Anthropologie</a>! I'm thrilled that <a href="http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/category/bags/accessories-bags.jsp" target="_blank">Anthro</a> has included crochet yet again, but also that these bags are made by hand in the USA! Hooray!<br />

While I'm busy putting together the last details for our <a href="http://www.donnasdecembers.blogspot.com/2012/10/this-week.html" target="_blank">Auburn trip</a>, I thought I'd share with you a little list of what I'm taking with us! <br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>I'm in the middle of Jeffery Eugenides' <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/125001476X?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=125001476X&linkCode=xm2&tag=donnsdece-20" target="_blank">The Marriage Plot</a> and LOVE it. I'm so excited to finish it on the drive down to South Carolina. I also have the latest<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002PXW1IE?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B002PXW1IE&linkCode=xm2&tag=donnsdece-20" target="_blank"> Real Simple</a> packed because let's be honest, I take it everywhere with me anyway!</li>
<li>Cory's favorite snack is peanut m&ms, so you'll be sure to find them in our snack bag. I also made a loaf of pumpkin bread, too! </li>
<li><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013K6WLM?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B0013K6WLM&linkCode=xm2&tag=donnsdece-20" target="_blank">The Black Keys</a> aren't anything new, but I am still smitten with their first big release from 2008. It's one of my <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013K6WLM?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B0013K6WLM&linkCode=xm2&tag=donnsdece-20" target="_blank">favorite albums </a>of all time. </li>
<li><a href="http://www.target.com/p/xhilaration-knit-trim-bomber-faux-leather-jacket-assorted-colors/-/A-14106741#prodSlot=large_1_2" target="_blank">This jacket</a> from Target is my favorite staple piece of the season. I don't usually wear leathers or any kind of animal skin (the only exception EVER is a good pair of boots), so this jacket was a perfect fit. </li>
<li>Cards Against Humanity is our favorite game recently. We can't stop playing it. Definitely only suitable for adults!</li>
<li>After this summer, Cory and I have decided to ditch the GPS and keep our brains alert while driving. We love using <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0528006223?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=0528006223&linkCode=xm2&tag=donnsdece-20" target="_blank">our Atlas</a> to discover the roads on our own! So fun!</li>
</ul>
What do you pack when you travel?<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
xo, </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
This week is flying by *already* and it's only Monday!You might think I'm a crazy person, but truthfully, this week is flying by mostly because I'm only working until Wednesday! That's right, it's time for our annual trip to Auburn, Alabama!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This trip is so much fun for a variety of reasons. We leave after work on Wednesday and head toward Greenville, South Carolina to visit with Beth's aunt, Kathy. After we stay the night there, we'll grab lunch and catch up with her the next morning. Then we only have a short drive (about 4-5 hours) until we finally arrive in Auburn. We'll explore the town all day Friday and then enjoy the football game against Texas A&M on Saturday. After such a short stay, 14 hours in the car on Saturday is usually a raucous time, listening to all the football games we can find.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Either way, this is one of my favorite weekends of the year, so I'm pretty busy over here getting ready! Tonight is all about getting caught up on grading and updating my gradebook. I'm also going to start packing and bake some pumpkin bread for the ride!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The to-do list seems impossible right now, but it will be so worth it in just a few short days!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I hope you're looking forward to something fun this weekend, too! </div>

Living in this area is really interesting because it's actually flooded with highly accomplished people. For example, romance novelist Nora Roberts lives about 10 minutes outside of my hometown. Ideally, this part of Maryland is a great place for retirees because it's close to the D.C. metro area, but far enough away to not feel like you're being consumed by it. So, when I found out that the man Ben Affleck's most recent film is based on a man whom lives right outside my hometown, I wasn't entirely shocked. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-du9m61ieSwE/UHyxYZqfs7I/AAAAAAAADfw/MElzz9fSJfs/s1600/argo+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-du9m61ieSwE/UHyxYZqfs7I/AAAAAAAADfw/MElzz9fSJfs/s1600/argo+1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argo_%282012_film%29" target="_blank">ARGO</a> is the story of CIA agent <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Mendez" target="_blank">Tony Mendez</a> plan to free 6 American diplomats that were being hunted down by the Iranian government in 1979 during the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_hostage_crisis" target="_blank">Iran Hostage Crisis</a>. To be honest, I wasn't even alive in 1979, so my knowledge of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_hostage_crisis" target="_blank">Iran Hostage Crisis</a> essentially stems from whatever I can remember from my U.S. and World History classes in high school. However, the movie taught me everything I needed to know.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sl8Nhvbk_Xg/UHyzUu18wII/AAAAAAAADf4/7AzNA6wqirk/s1600/argo+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sl8Nhvbk_Xg/UHyzUu18wII/AAAAAAAADf4/7AzNA6wqirk/s1600/argo+2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This was a really amazing movie for a few reasons:</div>
<br />
1) It was politically neutral. It bugs me to no end when I see a movie that completely glorifies America when we were clearly in the wrong. Affleck did a wonderful job stating the facts at the beginning of the film that were (according to my middle-of-the-road history teacher husband) very accurate.<br />
<br />
2) The intensity kept me on the edge of my seat. No, really. The EDGE. I could barely breath by the end of the film. The action was incredible, the pacing was perfect, and really, I just fell in love with the whole idea of one man saving so many lives.<br />
<br />
3) This guy lives in my school district. His kids graduated from the same high school I did. Cory's students have turned in projects about "Jesse's Dad". This guy has essentially been my neighbor for the majority of my life and has had such a crucial role in American history, which is so amazing.<br />
<br />
4) It's nice to see Ben Affleck in a serious role that isn't horrible. I can't remember the last time, or if I ever said, "Hey! That Ben Affleck sure is a great actor!" With all due respect, I know he's taken some time off to stay behind the camera, but in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argo_%282012_film%29" target="_blank">ARGO</a> I was truly impressed. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z8gxRwFhqtM/UHyzqKZedYI/AAAAAAAADgA/p_WmM6_Sev8/s1600/argo+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-z8gxRwFhqtM/UHyzqKZedYI/AAAAAAAADgA/p_WmM6_Sev8/s1600/argo+3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
So, yeah. Movies can be expensive and we certainly only make it to the theaters a few times a year. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argo_%282012_film%29" target="_blank">ARGO</a> was completely worth it. It is so nice to see such a quiet, but influential man be recognized for his dedication to the safety of Americans. Don't have plans this weekend? Well, now you do! :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HDOekIg4qdo/UHysZ8fUd0I/AAAAAAAADew/FuPKSeSQAOs/s1600/signature.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HDOekIg4qdo/UHysZ8fUd0I/AAAAAAAADew/FuPKSeSQAOs/s1600/signature.png" /></a></div>
<br />
DISCLAIMER: The language in the movie is pretty filthy, but in a realistic sense. I don't live in a cave where I think our government officials speak in courtesies every day. Don't take teens with you unless you're comfortable with them hearing the f bomb a time or two. Other than that, the violence is limited, but when it does occur, it's pretty graphic. </div>

Over the last few months I've developed an affinity for <a href="http://pinterest.com/donnasdecembers/" target="_blank">Pintrest</a> that I wasn't entirely expecting. Maybe it's because my best friend just got engaged and it's the easiest way for us to communicate wedding ideas (she's in NYC), or maybe it's just the idea of escaping from my giant stack of papers to grade for a little while? Either way is fine with me. I have been pinning a lot of crochet projects I want to try out now that the sun is setting earlier and I'll be spending more hours indoors. Here are a few I thought I'd share with you!<br />
<br />
I'm smitten over these bags from <a href="http://bambaparatejer.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Bamba</a>, an independent crochet artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. This is the crocodile stitch at it's best! I've often heard that Buenos Aires is a yarn wonderland--city blocks full of yarn vendors! What a DREAM!<br />

<br />
I've also been eying up this <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ribbon-accent-bag" target="_blank">Ribbon Accent Bag</a> from Pierrot yarns on Ravelry. What an adorable statement. I love the idea of this bag in black with a red bow or with a black bow mixed with metallic thread. Either way, it's so chic! You know, the best thing about this bag is that it would make a really cute gift to a bff or sister-in-law this holiday season! <br />

Let's be honest, we're always looking for inspiration. We're always waiting around waiting for that one brilliant idea to come about, or that color combination that sparks a genius idea (or any idea!) for our next project. For me, a lot of inspiration comes from reading. I tend to fly through craft biz books on a regular basis because I think it's extremely important to keep your skills and perspective as sharp as possible when trying to establish an indie biz. This is why I'm sharing with you two pieces I've read recently that I think you'll really enjoy!<br />
<br />

<br />
1) In this month's issue of <a href="http://www.marthastewart.com/" target="_blank">Martha Stewart's Living</a> I stumbled across a two page article called "This is Your Brain on Crafts." The article is not available online yet, but I'm hoping that this post might inspire you to pick up a copy next time you're checking out at the grocery store or sitting in a doctors office. I love <a href="http://www.marthastewart.com/" target="_blank">MSL</a> magazine for a myriad of reasons, but mostly because it makes me feel good about myself. I love MSL's aesthetic and it seems like it was designed with people like me in mind, which is nice, because I don't usually feel that way with magazines. MSL inspires me to bake from scratch, to try new herbs, to learn how to weatherize plans (I mean really, if it weren't for MSL, I'd have no idea what weatherize even meant). I just sorta love this magazine, to be honest, but this article really hit home. <br />
<br />
When I saw the faux embroidered image partnered with this article, I was intrigued. It was a good thing, too, because it completely validated the time I spent sampling a new yarn yesterday instead of grading papers. It made me feel much calmer about the idea of needing time to crochet and be creative instead of attempting to maximize every second I'm awake during the day. Ultimately, this brief article is worthy of the 10 minute break to read and have a private conversation within yourself regarding how much time you spent crafting or creating and how that should be just as important in your daily routine as eating balanced meals and exercising. I loved it! It's already torn out and on the cork board in our office!<br />
<br />
2) Hello Craft's <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/030758710X?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=030758710X&linkCode=xm2&tag=donnsdece07-20" target="_blank">Handmade to Sell</a> was just published last month and has been flying off the DIY bookshelves. I picked up this book on a whim last month when I knew I wouldn't be able to get to it for at least a few weeks. Fortunately, I'm able to squirrel in a few pages every now and then before bed and I'm so happy I have it as a positive, thorough tip-of-my-fingers resource. My favorite component of this book is that it uses real, successful shops instead of fabricated imaginary shops (pun not intended ;)). Kelly Rand certainly gets to the point and explains the what's what extremely well and in a very positive manner. The other thing I really enjoy is that Kimberly Dorn, cofounder of the local (and amazing) <a href="http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/craftybastards/" target="_blank">Crafty Bastards</a> and <a href="http://handmade-mart.com/" target="_blank">Handmade Mart</a>, also contributes to this book, which tells me that it's extremely up to date and applicable for people like me (I was accepted to Handmade Mart last year, but couldn't attend because of other plans)! I appreciate the jump start this book offered me as I look down the remaining days of 2012 and begin to think about how I want to advance my small biz on 2013!<br />

When Cory and I were on our summer road trip we stayed in Boulder, CO for a few days. Having never been to Colorado, I was pleasantly surprised because they have a thoroughly established handmade community. I had been given a recommendation by my friend Whitney to stop by <a href="http://fancytiger.com/craftindex.html" target="_blank">Fancy Tiger Craft</a>s on our way through Denver. I'm so glad we did because not only did I fall in love with the store, but I also picked up a few <a href="http://www.chiaogoo.com/" target="_blank">Chiaogoo crochet hooks</a> in the process! So here you go, a two-in-one review!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-71VO3_wkZ5M/UHs74yCB26I/AAAAAAAADZY/uz2xdMrHs-o/s1600/FT+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-71VO3_wkZ5M/UHs74yCB26I/AAAAAAAADZY/uz2xdMrHs-o/s1600/FT+1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d2FZbBsBa2k/UHs75NKEH5I/AAAAAAAADZg/t6NOhbvGqi8/s1600/FT+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d2FZbBsBa2k/UHs75NKEH5I/AAAAAAAADZg/t6NOhbvGqi8/s1600/FT+2.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
As soon as you walk into <a href="http://fancytiger.com/craftindex.html" target="_blank">Fancy Tiger Crafts</a>, it's nothing but color. Every item, notion, or product is available in a wide variety of colors. What I loved about this shop was that every nook and cranny was fully stocked with product, but I never felt overwhelmed. The staff was exceptionally friendly and willing to talk with me about crocheting while I picked out a new book and a small gift for Whitney. They also were very helpful while I asked them a few questions about Chiaogoo crochet hooks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MDmJelqdIWg/UHs75ueOhmI/AAAAAAAADZo/Uhk_mP_-DP8/s1600/FT+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MDmJelqdIWg/UHs75ueOhmI/AAAAAAAADZo/Uhk_mP_-DP8/s1600/FT+3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This incredible yarn-bombed deer in the back of the store is too gorgeous for me to put into words. As a person who isn't font of taxidermy, this would be my only exception. It was gorgeous!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j8wjPGF_pmM/UHs76rZX2DI/AAAAAAAADZw/juZXhTOSK_4/s1600/FT+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-j8wjPGF_pmM/UHs76rZX2DI/AAAAAAAADZw/juZXhTOSK_4/s1600/FT+4.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<a href="http://fancytiger.com/craftindex.html" target="_blank">Fancy Tiger</a> had nearly every material, notion, or craft product I could dream of including a wide variety of Mexican oil cloth. It really made me wish I could ship boxes back home, but alas, I had to hold off to stick to my road trip budget! All in all, <a href="http://fancytiger.com/craftindex.html" target="_blank">Fancy Tiger Crafts</a> was a happy place. I saw many locals coming into pick out supplies for their craft projects which reaffirms that it's a community establishment. To me, it's as important that local craft stores feel as part of the community as your favorite pub or eatery. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-G3CF5u_ErLo/UHs76-oIVII/AAAAAAAADZ4/RQC2NZs54f8/s1600/FT+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-G3CF5u_ErLo/UHs76-oIVII/AAAAAAAADZ4/RQC2NZs54f8/s1600/FT+5.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
So now to the second review: <a href="http://www.chiaogoo.com/" target="_blank">Chiaogoo Crochet Hooks</a>!</div>

<br />
While I was at <a href="http://fancytiger.com/craftindex.html" target="_blank">Fancy Tiger</a>, I stumbled upon their crochet hook selection and saw a brand of crochet hooks I was unfamiliar with at the time. Always wanting to try out new supplies, materials, etc., I picked up two different sized <a href="http://www.chiaogoo.com/" target="_blank">Chiaogoo</a> hooks to try out throughout our remaining days on our roadtrip.<br />
<br />
To be honest, what I like most about the <a href="http://www.chiaogoo.com/" target="_blank">Chiaogoo</a> hooks is that they are simple. They are sturdy, smooth bamboo crochet hooks that I can imagine the earliest crocheters using. They fit nicely in my hand and I don't have a trouble gripping them like aluminum or plastic hooks. They're pricey. I spent $10 on a 25mm hook, but in my mind, it's totally worth it. As artists, we try to give our customers the highest quality product, but sometimes we need the highest quality tools to do that. If you're willing to make a life-long investment, I highly encourage you to try out <a href="http://www.chiaogoo.com/" target="_blank">Chiaogoo hooks</a>. They would also make a <i>really </i>nice gift or stocking stuffer for the needle artist in your life!<br />

<br />What craft shop or product have you tried recently that you've loved? Let me know in the comments!<br />

Moore!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<div style="text-align: center;">
As you know, <a href="http://donnasdecembers.blogspot.com/2012/03/march-madness-at-lion-brand-studio.html" target="_blank">I've visited Lion Brand Yarn's flagship store</a> in New York City a handful of times because I'm lucky enough to have a friend who lives in the same neighborhood. Every time I go I gather inspiration and feel generally excited about crocheting and all things yarn. It's a beautiful spot that I wish I could visit more than just a few times a year, but I'll take what I can get! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So when I was scrolling through my Google Reader earlier this week and read <a href="http://blog.lionbrand.com/?utm_source=Community&utm_medium=LB-Blog&utm_campaign=TopNav" target="_blank">this post</a> from the <a href="http://blog.lionbrand.com/" target="_blank">Lion Brand Notebook</a>, I was shocked to hear that they are now opening mini-shops in A.C. Moore stores and the very first one was opening this weekend in <a href="http://blog.lionbrand.com/2012/10/10/new-lion-brand-yarn-shop-inside-a-c-moore-arts-crafts-store-in-white-marsh-maryland/" target="_blank">White Marsh, Maryland</a>! This is amazing news because I always need a healthy dose of inspiration and I happened to have no plans this weekend, so I made a mental note to allow a few hours for a mini-road trip at some point this weekend to check it out. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When I woke up on Sunday, I knew I wanted to make the hour drive to White Marsh and decided it would be nice to just go by myself, that way I could take my time if need be. So here's the inside scoop about these pop-up LBY stores! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sOH6XePlPXs/UHscBLUSkLI/AAAAAAAADVQ/jIwas_zilh8/s1600/LB+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sOH6XePlPXs/UHscBLUSkLI/AAAAAAAADVQ/jIwas_zilh8/s1600/LB+1.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, this is me really excited about going to the new LBY store. As you can see, I am overjoyed at the prospects of this trip ;). I decided to leave my dSLR at home and just use my cell camera as to not offend the crowd I was sure to encounter. This ended up being a great strategy, because A.C. Moore was crowded and I would've been nervous about something happening to my camera. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rBkFu9DJH3w/UHscBmH5bEI/AAAAAAAADVY/WK2UmEcDB6A/s1600/LB+10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rBkFu9DJH3w/UHscBmH5bEI/AAAAAAAADVY/WK2UmEcDB6A/s1600/LB+10.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As soon as I parked at The Avenue, the shopping center where A.C. Moore was located, I was surprised that A.C. Moore wasn't advertising this new partnership outside. I was expecting posters and maybe some yarn bombing, but alas, I was excited enough without the extra flare. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When I walked into the yarn department, I was greeted by an A.C. Moore employee who gave me a raffle ticket (excuse my disgusting thumb nail) for an upcoming 12 o'clock raffle. Sadly, I didn't win the raffle, but I sure "won" when it came to the steep discounts A.C. Moore was offering on LB yarn and supplies! As you can see, I picked up a new pair of stress gloves as mine tore a few months ago. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-njc4d9oWQoE/UHscCW59w1I/AAAAAAAADVg/e1quaWzpmdA/s1600/LB+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-njc4d9oWQoE/UHscCW59w1I/AAAAAAAADVg/e1quaWzpmdA/s1600/LB+2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The entire LB set-up is really nice and pleasing to the eye. It's essentially like shopping at your favorite local yarn shop, but with florescent lighting. It's actually really easy to forget that you're in a big box craft store because of the enlarged aisle space and work area. I really liked the signage and wood grain accents throughout the entire section. In true Lion Brand Studio fashion, there were plenty of sample projects, models, and assistants to help you make the most educated yarn purchase!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7rDAUPGAwcY/UHscC0TK-eI/AAAAAAAADVo/eg9B2lKdlX8/s1600/LB+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7rDAUPGAwcY/UHscC0TK-eI/AAAAAAAADVo/eg9B2lKdlX8/s1600/LB+3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My favorite part of this partnership is that the yarn is finally organized in a logical manner. So many times big-box stores organize their yarn by brand and not by type, this new organization method allows A.C. Moore to organize the LB yarn by material and size (i.e. all the wool/wool blend is next to one another). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-t2HHMHTo8OU/UHscDVlbaAI/AAAAAAAADVw/OaZ6YFLX4r8/s1600/LB+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-t2HHMHTo8OU/UHscDVlbaAI/AAAAAAAADVw/OaZ6YFLX4r8/s1600/LB+4.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OQtdnra9goM/UHscEJmaW2I/AAAAAAAADV4/py4WAjEfw8o/s1600/LB+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-OQtdnra9goM/UHscEJmaW2I/AAAAAAAADV4/py4WAjEfw8o/s1600/LB+5.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The other great thing about this partnership is that now A.C. Moore carries so many more LB supplies! It's difficult for me to find hooks and other notions at local stores; I usually have to buy them online or whenever I visit NYC. So this entire end-cap was well organized and exciting for me to see so many options. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fQgEYUcoYTE/UHscET25fUI/AAAAAAAADWA/bv6rQeJ_oMs/s1600/LB+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fQgEYUcoYTE/UHscET25fUI/AAAAAAAADWA/bv6rQeJ_oMs/s1600/LB+6.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If you look closely, there's a learning center much like the class area in the real LBS space. On this particular day, the A.C. Moore associates were doing a Make and Take headband using the new bon-bons! So many crafters were having a blast learning how to use the adorable little packages. Other associates were demonstrating how to use the Martha Stewart loom kit that LB released about a year ago. I actually scooped one up because they were on sale for $15.99 instead of the regular $39.99! What a deal!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-83ycUAje6z0/UHscE8TAtXI/AAAAAAAADWI/3qPD1Msyjik/s1600/LB+7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-83ycUAje6z0/UHscE8TAtXI/AAAAAAAADWI/3qPD1Msyjik/s1600/LB+7.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pPk9DYGhkW8/UHscFem-RnI/AAAAAAAADWQ/SX1Fi3Casxw/s1600/LB+8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pPk9DYGhkW8/UHscFem-RnI/AAAAAAAADWQ/SX1Fi3Casxw/s1600/LB+8.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Another great accent is that each bin of yarn has it's own hang-tag instead of just the regular big-box price tag. Each hang-tag offers the name of the yarn, the color, and the weight. They were extremely easy to read; much easier than those pesky little barcode stickers! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GdPpO_M5gwc/UHscF3oCGJI/AAAAAAAADWY/dlbobUSxDI0/s1600/LB+9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GdPpO_M5gwc/UHscF3oCGJI/AAAAAAAADWY/dlbobUSxDI0/s1600/LB+9.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here is one of the displays that made me feel like I was no longer in A.C. Moore. This was a simple display that really allowed me to feel like I was in a smaller yarn shop browsing different samples. I really liked this personal touch. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So here's the bottom line: this is a great adaptation to Lion Brand's personal style you experience when visiting their flagship location in NYC. Sure, you're still shopping in A.C. Moore, but it's much more tolerable! Since their other locations have not been announced yet, if you find out your local A.C. Moore is making this transition, consider yourself lucky! I know I'll be making the hour drive to White Marsh much more frequently since there are so many more options and varieties of yarn available through this partnership!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-m9Zyht5dawI/UHstZDaCPEI/AAAAAAAADYY/36cdgLnGF8M/s1600/black+ankle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-m9Zyht5dawI/UHstZDaCPEI/AAAAAAAADYY/36cdgLnGF8M/s1600/black+ankle.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b> </b>(This is our favorite local winery, <a href="http://www.blackankle.com/" target="_blank">Black Ankle</a>. It's an award winning winery deep in the woods of Western Maryland and only about 15 minutes from our house! If you listen to the Baltimore NPR station (<a href="http://www.wypr.org/" target="_blank">WYPR</a>), <a href="http://www.wypr.org/stationprogram/cellar-notes-1" target="_blank">Cellar Notes</a> always gives it rave reviews. The wine can be a little pricey, but certainly worth it every few months to treat yourself. We love the Syrah! The winery itself is gorgeous and surrounded by the most amazing view.)</div>
<br />
<b>S</b>ince I'm just getting back into a blog routine, I wanted to jump on the bandwagon and do one of these "lately" posts I've been seeing on some of my favorite blogs. So here goes...<br />
<br />
<b>Watching:</b> A lot of post-season baseball. Unfortunately the Orioles didn't win against the Yankees in game 5, but boy was it fun to stay up late a few nights last week and keep my fingers crossed for Charm City's favorite baseball team! Since the Nationals also lost in Game 5, we're essentially cheering for anyone except the Yankees. ;)<br />
<br />
<b>Listening to: </b>My go-to weekend morning album is always <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000002MG4?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B000002MG4&linkCode=xm2&tag=donnsdece-20" target="_blank">Harvest Moon</a> by Neil Young. It's the perfect beat to make coffee, flip pancakes, and wake up slowly. Other than that, I've been listening to <a href="http://songza.com/" target="_blank">Songza </a>a lot in the car. <br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Reading:</b> I'm about half way through Jeffery Eugenides' <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/125001476X?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=125001476X&linkCode=xm2&tag=donnsdece-20" target="_blank">The Marriage Plot</a>. I'm really enjoying the characters and story line so far, but I have a feeling it's about to take a dramatic turn.This is my first Eugenides novel, but I've always really loved <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NK7H1M?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B000NK7H1M&linkCode=xm2&tag=donnsdece-20" target="_blank">The Virgin Suicides</a> movie, so I'm excited to see how it all ends. <br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>Working on:</b> A few new crochet accessories and a unit regarding campaign strategies used in the 2012 election. It's all I can do to squeeze in a few minutes every day to crochet. I'm determined! <br />
<br />
<b>Anticipating: </b>The remaining weekends in October are looking very promising. This weekend Cory and I visited our favorite local winery, went out for sushi, and then saw <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0670026220?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=0670026220&linkCode=xm2&tag=donnsdece-20" target="_blank">Argo</a>. Believe it or not, Tony Mendez lives about 20 minutes from us and his children go to school in our school district. Cory actually taught his son at his old school. It's a pretty small world and a truly inspirational story! A great movie--I highly recommend it! Anyway, we have shortened work weeks for the next two weeks and days chalked full of plans. It's an exciting, fun time of year!</div>
